How is it April already?!

April.  We've celebrated 3 kiddo birthdays already this year with Claire left in May.  And she's going to be 13.  How is that even possible?

The other thing that is crazy is my continual lack of blogging.  I really, really want to blog more, but that Instagram...it's just so easy.  But it's also kind of lacking wordiness.  And I can definitely be a wordy kind of a girl.

I was looking over my 2015 and 2016 (thus far) posts just thinking about how thin my blog book will be for those years.  I can probably just combine them with 2017-2020 and make it semi-worthwhile. :)

Okay, so we've had some major excitement around here since I last posted.  We have a new member of the family...gasp!!!  It's another girl...

Ahhhhh...isn't she precious?!  She certainly is when she's sleeping!  Welcome Ruby!!  Long story short...Josh's brother (who is a dog breeder...along with 46 other professions) was out of town for a couple of months on a special assignment, so we had his pregnant dog.  She had 6 adorable black lab puppies, and we kept one.  We absolutely love her, even though she's totally a puppy and wants to chew on all socks and shoes and slippers and legos and every other thing that isn't hers.

We've had her in the house with us for almost two months.  She's doing great overall, but I'm looking forward to getting past the puppy stage...in two or three years. :)

For anyone who isn't friends with me in real life, you will be shocked and surprised (and hopefully just as thrilled as we are) to find out that we're also having another baby!

That photo was taken just prior to 20 weeks.  I'm over 26 weeks at this point and twice that big.  Maybe I'll talk Josh into taking a photo with my real camera sometime in the near future.  Okay, so the even more shocking news...

I know, right?!!  Shocking.  I still don't think I've wrapped my brain around it, nor do I think I will before he arrives in July.  And probably not even then, either.  It's going to take us a while to get used to snakes and snails and puppy dog tails (though, we're doing pretty well with the puppy dog tails right now).

So, this is kind of how this baby thing went down:  I have kind of wanted baby #5 for a while.  I've been thinking about it for a couple of years, but I knew Josh probably wasn't going to be on board.  He was perfectly content with four kiddos.  I would hint around from time to time to get a feel for his interest level or lack thereof.  He was at like a 10% baby, 90% no baby level.  Not very promising.  I was really 50/50.

So, then one evening last spring, we had a pretty major discussion about it.  It wasn't sounding promising (at all) for another baby.  So, I prayed for contentment.  And maybe I prayed for a surprise pregnancy as well...but definitely was praying more for contentment.  Then, in August, I had just decided that I was so okay with not having another baby.

Josh had been throwing out the thought of getting a dog in the house since Tucker was sick and didn't have much time remaining.  I wasn't sure I wanted another body in the house, but I warmed to the idea.  So, one night in September, Josh was sitting at the computer working, and I came up to him and said, "I think we should get a puppy."  His response: "I think we should have a baby."

I.was.speechless.  Literally.speechless.

I think my jaw dropped and my mouth was hanging open for who knows how long.  Then, I had to completely check my emotions to decide if I really wanted a baby #5.  Well, regardless, I decided that we just better hurry up and get pregnant before either of us changed our minds.  So, we did.  And here we are.  And the Lord is so kind.  We feel beyond blessed to be welcoming this precious baby into our lives, and our girls are beyond thrilled.  I fear that I'm going to have to fight for baby holding time. :)

So, those are the two big adjustments in our world.  We have seven weeks of school remaining!!  Seven!!  So excited about that.  We've had a fun birthday stretch, and I make no promises, but I would love to post about birthdays and kiddos.  I actually do drag out my nice camera to take birthday pictures.  That will at least force me to upload photos, and I might even have one or two others that I could post.  That would be something, wouldn't it?

dinnertime chaos

If you can imagine, the dinnertime preparation hour in our home can be a bit of a crazy time.  Olivia is clingy because she's still waking up from her nap, Amelia is grumpy because she's hungry and her snack from 30 minutes ago has worn off already, Meredith and Claire are thinking that RIGHT NOW is a great time to bake some cookies, Aunt Jill is on the phone because she's on her way home from work, and Josh is calling to let me know that he had to stop on the way home to pick up a few things for the new roof that is being put on the house this weekend.

Okay, okay, this isn't EVERY day...just today.

While all this is happening, this little pumpkin...

(she's not as innocent as she looks)...decides that she is going to get into my spice bin, which was sitting on the counter.  I didn't notice, and apparently no one else did either.

In a short minute, there was ground cumin all.over.the.bar.area.  Yikes.

Meanwhile, this one...

...was trying to make peanut butter cookies for the guys who would be working on our roof.  As sweet as that was, a certain adult who was in the middle of cooking dinner and cleaning up ground cumin needed to assist her, and let's just say it wasn't good timing.

The adult told the child to immediately stop making cookies.  That event would have to wait for a later hour when the adult wasn't losing her patience.

While I was cleaning up the cumin, the toasted pecans turned into burnt pecans.  Lovely.

Finally, I found two minutes (while the broccoli was steaming) to have a discussion with Olivia about getting into my spices.  When I picked her up, I realized that she had poop leaking out of her diaper.

Enough already!!

We made it through dinner with only one small milk spill.

Shortly after dinner, obviously not learning anything from the pre-dinner fiasco, a certain 5 year old...

(who is absolutely as ornery as she looks) ...was playing with our homemade batch of firecracker rub.

I could give you two guesses as to what happened next, but really, you'll only need one.

Currently, our trash contains about one full cup of spice and has quite an interesting aroma...spicy.

I always knew we needed to keep weapons, medications, scissors, glue, and the like under lock and key.  I think I'm going to add spices to that list as well.

Conversation at breakfast this morning:

Meredith: Mom, do you like it when we do more work or when you do more work?

Me: Well, I usually do more work, but I like it when you do work too. It helps me to not have to do so much.

Claire: Well, we'll do more work when you're in the nursing home.

Me: (thinking...did I just hear her put me in the nursing home?) What did you say?

Claire: We'll do more work when you're in the nursing home....'cause we'll be older then.

Seriously? I'm only 31, and they're already making plans to put me in the nursing home! Pray for me.

You know you live in a house with too many light-sensitive toys when you turn off the lights at bedtime and you hear chirps and croaks.

Happens every time.

Seriously.

Claire took Meredith's guys (her stuffed animals that she sleeps with) and hid them in Amelia's room. This obviously didn't go over well with Meredith. She ran, screaming through the hallway to find Claire.

I took off after her since she was screaming so loudly. She hit Claire. (Claire totally deserved it, but I just couldn't let it go.)

Me: Meredith, when you are upset with someone, you need to use your words. You need to tell Claire that you would like your guys back. You may not just walk up to her and hit her.

Meredith: (as sincere as possible) Well, sometimes I run.

The Lord has the best sense of humor when he creates these little ones!

Seriously.

Seriously.

This lovely little note was on my van following a home school meeting last week. (There were several people at the meeting, so (of course) we couldn't all fit in the same driveway.)

That's right...it doesn't say "Keep off the grass!" It says, "Kee off the Grass!"

And then it goes on to say, "Tell the Rest of the People that in those houses as well." (As if we were all in different houses and I should take care of the problem.)

Hmmmmm.

First of all, in my defense, I was barely in their yard. Secondly, they didn't even have that nice of a yard.

I just wanted to yell, "GET OVER YOURSELVES!!!" But I didn't because I don't usually yell at people.

I did notice, though, that they had placed these lovely "Kee off the Grass" signs on a few other vehicles parked around me as well.

Seriously...GET OVER YOURSELVES!!!

Note to self...if I ever go to a meeting on this street again, I'm parking on the other side of the street. Or maybe I'll bring my sign back and park in the middle of their yard. Did I just type that? I shouldn't type things like that...it doesn't make me sound like a very nice person.

And overall, I'm really very civil except when people are being ridiculous. Then, well, I can be a little sarcastic and annoyed, and I say things that I shouldn't.

Ok, I'm over it.

It's summer....
we're playing at the park.
we're enjoying the outdoors.
we're hanging with our friends.
we're swimming at the lake.
we're sleeping in.

It's summer....
we're not blogging so much.

Seriously.

Meredith was picking her nose and eating it the other day while we were sitting on the couch.

I said, "Meredith, please stop picking your nose and eating your boogers. That's gross."

She responds, "I'm not eating my boogers, I'm eating my snot!"

....well, then, on with it...that's not nearly as disgusting.

Seriously.

I can't make this stuff up.

I sent a Christmas card to our friends, Jim and Kelly on December 18 (at least that's the postmark).

It was returned to me on Wednesday (April 28) as "undeliverable" because they had moved and there was no forwarding address.

This is what happens when one child (Meredith) throws a bag of powdered sugar at another child (Claire).

AND, even after you scrub the hard floor 5 times, it still has a sticky glaze to it.

(I informed Meredith that I was taking the picture to show Daddy, but I really wanted to blog about it!)

Seriously.

I opened a new pack of AA batteries tonight to replace the battery in my mouse. I noticed the warning on the back:

"If swallowed or lodged in ear or nose, promptly see a doctor."

Do people really need reminded of this?

Scene: Crying Meredith. Guilty-looking Claire.

Meredith: Claire just bit me!

Claire: I didn't bite her...I was just hugging her with my teeth!

Seriously....it gets better.

Me: Claire, we don't bite people. You know that. You need to apologize.

Claire: Meredith, I'm sorry for hugging you with my teeth.

I laughed out loud. Seriously.

I was at Target the other day, and I saw this wall hanging. I was trying to figure out why someone would want to hang the word "flu" on their wall. I seriously stared at it for like 2 minutes trying to figure out what a dandelion and the flu had in common.

Oh....the one behind it said "fly". I laughed out loud.

Seriously.

My computer is "almost dead". That's what Brian says. I think it is dead.

I am at the library with my three children for story time (and for checking emails and blogging). What can I say...there's a first time for everything.

Seriously.

I just said last week that I was going to blog more...not so much now. :( Brian says it will be fixed soon. I'll update you when I can!

Claire came running in the house today, and said (with big eyes and slightly out of breath), "I just heard a noise outside. I think it may have been a tiger."

I think I would rather have the giraffes.

It takes me at least 2 full days to recover from a fun afternoon of tubing on the lake.

Please remind my body that it is 29, not 19.
Big difference.

I'm going to be posting like mad...if I have time this week. Here's why:

Amelia got her first tooth.

Claire lost her first tooth.

The big, big bonfire rocked!

Claire starts kindgergarten tomorrow. *sniff*

We're homeschooling, and I'm still emotional about it! *sniff* (again)

Several:

1. Claire had her soccer games last night. She barely moved for the first 58 minutes of the first game. The second game was much better.

2. My new friend (of a friend) Sarah totally put me on her blog list. We can be friends.

3. The toilet pictures will be posted in the near future.

Seriously.
